| Pakistan victims face food crisis
Millions of Pakistani flood survivors already short on food and water have begun the fasting month of Ramadan, marked this year by misery and fears of an uncertain future. Food prices have tripled in some parts of the country because of damage to crops, roads and bridges, adding to the pain of the 14 million people affected by one of the worst natural disasters to hit the already poor nation. Government officials visited flood victims on Saturday, after deciding to cancel Independence Day celebrations in light of the tragedy. Yousuf Raza Gilani, the Pakistani prime minister, defended the government's response to the flooding, saying it is on "such a huge level that the government help looks insufficient". Al Jazeera's Sohail Rahman reports from Mingora, a city on the slow road to recovery. |

| Pakistan anger over flood response
More than 1000 people have died in northwestern Pakistan as a result of the worst flooding in the country's history. Another 1.5 million have been affected by the deluge that destroyed thousands of homes and vast swathes of farmland. Several camps, providing food and relief, have been set up in community centres by provincial and relief organisations, but many survivors are growing increasingly angry at the government's responseto the situation. Al Jazeera's Sohail Rahman reports from the Swat Valley. |

| Over 1000 killed in deadly Pakistan floods, thousands stranded
In Pakistan, the death toll from the worst flooding the country's seen in over eighty years has reached more than 1100. Officials say that figure could rise as there are areas rescue workers have not yet been able to reach. Flooded roads and damaged bridges are hampering rescue efforts. Some 27000 are still stranded in remote villages. |

| Pakistan & China bond, US out in the cold?
China has agreed to invest in Pakistan's energy sector. President Asif Zardari is in Beijing at the beginning of a week long visit. And with that deal, and rumours of further nuclear agreements in the offing, US influence over Pakistan appears to be waning. Dr Anatol Lieven from King's College says for Pakistan, China could soon replace America. |
